7 Places in Your Home Where a Magic Eraser Makes It Look Brand New Again

We love our kids and pets (had to preface this before we continue) but they sure do know how to dirty a house with absolutely no remorse. Before you repaint, grab a magic eraser.

We obviously love our kids and pets. Had to preface this before we continue.

However, they sure as hell know how to dirty a house with absolutely no remorse. Hand prints everywhere, clothes on the ground that you just washed, fur all over your furniture and floor, and somehow your walls are marked too.

Well forget repainting. Forget harsh sprays. Grab a magic eraser.

What Is a Magic Eraser and Why Does It Work?

A magic eraser is made from melamine foam, a micro-abrasive material that acts like ultra-fine sandpaper at a microscopic level. When you dampen it and rub gently against a surface, it lifts away marks, scuffs and built-up grime that sprays and cloths simply cannot touch.

At Clean N Co Services, magic erasers are one of our most-used tools across Melbourne homes and commercial spaces. Here are the 7 places they deliver the most satisfying results.

7 Places to Use a Magic Eraser in Your Home

  • Walls: The most obvious use and the most satisfying. Hand prints, scuff marks, crayon and pen lift away with a gentle rub. Test a small patch first on painted walls.
  • Skirting Boards: Skirting boards collect shoe scuffs, pet marks and floor-level grime constantly. A magic eraser restores them to white in seconds.
  • Light Switches and Power Points: Touched constantly, almost never cleaned. A quick wipe removes the yellowing and finger marks that build up over time.
  • Interior Doors: The areas around handles and push plates get marked constantly. A magic eraser brings them back to clean without damaging the surface.
  • Bathroom Tiles and Grout: Stubborn soap residue and surface staining on tiles respond very well to gentle magic eraser treatment. Use light pressure on glossy tiles.
  • Stovetops: For light surface marks and residue on glass or ceramic stovetops, a dampened magic eraser used gently removes marks that regular cleaners leave behind.
  • Sneakers and Shoe Soles: The rubber soles and midsoles of shoes clean up beautifully. A go-to trick for making old sneakers look new again without any product.

How to Use a Magic Eraser Without Damaging Surfaces

Dampen the eraser with water. That is all you need. Wring out any excess and rub gently on the marked surface. For painted walls and delicate surfaces, use very light pressure and test a hidden area first.

Magic erasers are mildly abrasive, so avoid using them on high-gloss finishes, stainless steel or any surface where fine scratches would be visible.

💡

Pro tip: Cut your magic eraser into smaller pieces. You will cover more surface area per eraser and reduce waste significantly.

Are They Expensive?

A pack costs between $5 and $12 at most supermarkets and hardware stores. Given how many surfaces each eraser can tackle and what it would cost to repaint or replace marked surfaces, they are one of the best value cleaning tools you can own.

Cheap, simple and satisfying. It is like a mini facelift for your home. No painter required.

All the best, Liam and Andrew
