Most people clean randomly, a bit here and a bit there. That is why things get missed. Professional cleaners always have a method. Here is the one we use in every single clean.
Most people clean randomly. A bit here, a bit there. That is why things get missed.
You start in the kitchen, then notice the bathroom is a disaster. By the time you finish one room you have forgotten what you missed in another. You keep finding more to clean and eventually just accept defeat.
Why Random Cleaning Does Not Work
When you clean without a method, your brain has no reliable way to track what has actually been done. You skip corners, miss edges and overlook surfaces simply because your eyes glanced past them without a structured path to follow.
Professional cleaners do not rely on memory or inspiration. They follow a system. And that is the only reason they consistently deliver spotless results, room after room, every single time.
The Professional Method: Left to Right, Top to Bottom
At Clean N Co Services, every room we clean across Melbourne is cleaned the same way. Left to right. Top to bottom. No exceptions.
- Choose a starting point in the room, usually the doorway or one corner.
- Begin at the highest point in the room, such as the top of cabinets or ceiling fans, and work downward.
- Move methodically from left to right as you work your way around the room.
- Never jump to the other side of the room or switch between tasks. Finish each section before moving on.
- End at the floor. Vacuum or mop last to capture everything that settled during the clean.
Why This Method Works Every Time
The left-to-right, top-to-bottom method works because it gives your brain a clear, reliable path. You do not have to decide what to clean next. The method decides for you.
Because you are always moving in the same direction, you physically cannot skip a surface without crossing it. No spots skipped. Just consistent results every single time.
How to Apply It Room by Room
Kitchen
Start at the top of your cabinets. Work left to right across the benchtops and appliances, then tackle the lower cupboards, oven and kickboards. Finish with the floor.
Bathroom
Begin at the exhaust fan or ceiling. Work down to the mirror and vanity, then the toilet and shower, then skirting boards, and finish with the floor.
Living Areas and Bedrooms
Start with any ceiling fans or light fittings. Then move to shelves and tall furniture, then lower surfaces, and finish with vacuuming.
Pro tip: Clean all rooms first, then vacuum the entire home in one pass at the very end. It is faster than vacuuming each room individually as you go.
All the best, Liam and Andrew
